About The Position

We are a family of four in Mountain Brook, Alabama, seeking a reliable and proactive Household Manager & Family Assistant to help maintain our energetic and intentional home. Life in our home is full, with two parents who are deeply invested in their careers and family. We are looking for someone to help manage household tasks, systems, and childcare for our youngest child, ensuring our home remains organized, calm, and welcoming. This role is not just about babysitting; it's about becoming a trusted part of our household support system, bringing warmth, honesty, and efficiency to both childcare and home management. We value clear communication and a proactive approach to maintaining our home and family needs.

Requirements

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Maintain a smoke-free environment.
  • Maintain a fragrance-free presence in the home.
  • Reliable personal transportation; clean driving record required.
  • Must be a strong swimmer (pool access in the home with young children).
  • CPR and First Aid certified, or willing to obtain prior to start.
  • Comfortable using family vehicles when transporting children or running errands.
  • Must be warm, honest, discreet, and reliable.
  • Must be comfortable working independently.
  • Must be comfortable communicating professionally with vendors and contractors.
  • Must be able to take pride in work, even when no one is watching.

Nice To Haves

  • Mileage reimbursement available for use of personal vehicles.
  • Occasional flexibility for one Saturday per month for event support (candidate may help plan and source event staff as an alternative to working the event directly).

Responsibilities

  • Provide in-home care for the youngest child on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings, including planning and facilitating age-appropriate activities.
  • Prep backpacks, clothing, and snacks for school days.
  • Support with kid-related errands as needed.
  • Maintain household organization systems established by professional organizers.
  • Perform daily resets and prep the home for the cleaning team.
  • Assist with identifying and onboarding a regular cleaning service.
  • Light tidying throughout the home, including dishes, surfaces, and high-traffic floor areas.
  • Maintain drop zones and entry areas.
  • Manage seasonal clothing swaps for children's wardrobes and coordinate donation drop-offs.
  • Perform indoor plant care.
  • Change batteries, light bulbs, and smoke detector batteries as needed.
  • Conduct quarterly toy rotations and organizational projects.
  • Restock pantry, refrigerator, and household supplies.
  • Manage running household supply lists.
  • Manage household orders and subscriptions (Instacart, Amazon, Costco, Target).
  • Handle returns, dry cleaning drop-off and pick-up, mail, and package management.
  • Break down boxes and manage donation coordination.
  • Assist with weekly meal planning and presenting creative ideas.
  • Perform online grocery shopping, including placing orders and putting deliveries away.
  • Provide meal prep support, such as washing fruit and chopping vegetables.
  • Handle kitchen clean-up and maintenance.
  • Perform weekly refrigerator maintenance, including removing expired items.
  • Wash, fold, and organize laundry for the household, involving children where age-appropriate.
  • Iron and steam garments as needed.
  • Perform weekly linen rotation (bedding and towels).
  • Maintain tidy and well-stocked laundry areas.
  • Let the dog outside as needed during shifts and ensure water is available.
  • Provide one approximately 20-minute dog walk per shift, if schedule allows.
  • Schedule and manage grooming appointments and vet visits for the pet.
  • Maintain pet supply inventory.
  • Clean and organize family vehicle interiors.
  • Oversee and be present for cleaners, contractors, and landscapers.
  • Research and coordinate repair quotes and service providers.
  • Coordinate smaller renovation projects.
  • Manage outdoor spaces, including patio upkeep and sweeping.
  • Coordinate seasonal property maintenance.
  • Perform occasional deep cleans of appliances and areas like baseboards.
  • Refresh drop zones, entry areas, and garage/mudroom spaces.
  • Perform organizational projects for toys and gear, especially during family travel.
  • Provide calendar management and appointment coordination.
  • Research and schedule new service providers in the Mountain Brook area.
  • Coordinate with the family's executive assistant for office events and professional gatherings.
  • Track receipts for household purchases.
  • Coordinate events and appointments, including monthly dinner parties and tailgate-style gatherings.
  • Help source and coordinate event staff when needed.
