The House Supervisor (RN) for the Weekend Program is responsible for participating, observing, and acting as a resource to staff for patient-related clinical and service problems. This role collaborates with physicians to ensure optimal patient care and effective resource utilization, while supporting staff in problem-solving unit and patient service issues. The House Supervisor acts as a patient advocate, responds to patient and visitor concerns, and initiates investigations into patient incidents and medication errors, ensuring proper documentation and corrective action plans. They also serve as a liaison for staff to ensure processes are in place for an optimal level of patient care, collaborating with nurse managers, department managers, medical staff, and hospital administration. This role identifies trends in system problems, assists with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, and obtains patient reports from sending areas to evaluate patient status. They may also transfer patients or reassign staff to accommodate admissions and complete admission processes as needed. Additionally, the House Supervisor responds to public relations issues, maintains guest relations, alerts administration of potential patient/hospital situations, directs media appropriately, and fields outside inquiries. They ensure compliance with regulatory agency standards and may intervene in the absence of the Safety Officer or Patient Safety Officer during conditions that immediately threaten life, health, or property. The role involves various patient positioning and transporting duties requiring lifting and pushing/pulling, and requires knowledge of age-specific care needs.
