The House Supervisor (RN) is responsible for participating, observing, and acting as a resource to staff for patient-related clinical and service problems. This role collaborates with physicians to ensure optimal patient care and effective resource utilization, while supporting staff in problem-solving unit and patient service issues. The House Supervisor acts as a patient advocate, responds to patient and visitor concerns, and initiates investigations into patient incidents and medication errors, ensuring proper documentation and corrective action plans. They also serve as a liaison for staff to ensure processes are in place for optimal patient care, collaborating with nurse managers, department managers, medical staff, and hospital administration. This role identifies trends in system problems, assists with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, and obtains patient reports from sending areas to evaluate patient status. Additionally, the House Supervisor responds to public relations issues, ensures compliance with regulatory agencies, and may intervene in the absence of the Safety Officer or Patient Safety Officer during emergencies. The role involves various patient positioning and transporting duties, requiring knowledge of age-specific care and the ability to assess and interpret patient needs.
