About The Position

The House Supervisor is a management position responsible for directing and coordinating patient placement and nurse staffing throughout LBMC. This role involves directing and triaging admissions and transfers, making final decisions on patient assignments to clinical units, and responding to all customer requests from patients, families, physicians, and staff. The House Supervisor resolves unusual and unplanned patient and staff problems, referring them to executive management or Risk Management if necessary. They also evaluate significant events through debriefing, data analysis, and intervention, consulting with the Director or Executive Nurse on call. In the absence of executive nursing or management, the House Supervisor acts on their behalf and responds to all hospital emergency codes, potentially acting as the Chief Nursing Officer and Incident Commander during Code Triage until relieved. The position initiates emergency policies and procedures for situations like Emergency Department saturation or lack of beds/staff for patient admissions.

Requirements

5 years of active nursing practice in acute care
2 years nursing management preferred
Prior nursing leadership required
Current California RN License required
Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing Required; If a candidate has an MSN, BSN is not required
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required
American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification required
NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required

Responsibilities

Direct patient flow and room assignments for all admissions and transfers within the medical center, making final decisions on unit assignments based on ATD guidelines, physician orders, and professional judgment when agreement is not reached.
Direct nurse staffing for the hospital and secure supplemental agency nursing staff.
Act as the immediate supervisor for on-duty Central Staffing Office staff and all Float Unit Staff.
Respond to all hospital emergencies and initiate Codes such as Code Triage when necessary, acting as Chief Nursing Officer and Incident Commander during Code Triage until relieved by assigned disaster officers.
Respond to all customer requests, including those from physicians, patients, families, support service staff, and managers.
Act on behalf of nursing and hospital administrative staff in their absence and contact administrators on call as necessary.
Collaborate with medical center directors to implement or enforce medical center values, policies, and procedures.
Ensure patients receive appropriate medical care by triaging and assigning them to the correct level of care/unit.
Implement emergency policies during situations with no available beds or nurses, and when the Emergency Department is saturated or closed to trauma.
Assume added responsibilities under the direction of the Director, such as staff coaching and counseling, and participation in CAT process and Quality Improvement activities.
