About The Position

The House Nurse Coordinator (HNC) role is a Registered Nurse who, under the direction of the Community Chief Nursing Officer, represents and serves as a liaison between the administrative team and employees, physicians, patients, families, and customers. The role provides general supervision in the hospital and facilitates communication among employees, patients, families, physicians, and administration. Key functions include supporting and intervening to solve patient care and employee concerns, serving as the bed placement coordinator, and assisting department leaders with daily staffing adjustments and continuity of care in the absence of the direct supervisor. Knowledge of sound nursing practice, overall hospital administration, emergency management, crisis intervention, conflict resolution, negotiation, and delegation are essential for effective performance.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing (Required)
  • Minimum of two (2) years of acute care nursing experience (Required)
  • Registered Nurse – Single State or Compact (Required)
  • BLS upon hire (Required)
  • ACLS and PALS required within 90 days of hire (Required)

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (Preferred)
  • Five (5+) or more years of acute care nursing experience (Preferred)
  • One (1) year of supervisory experience (Preferred)
  • Professional specialty certification (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Promote the mission, vision, values, and culture of ARH.
  • Demonstrate commitment to patient, visitor, and staff safety by complying with regulations, reporting errors and hazards, identifying opportunities for improvement, and participating in safety education and root cause analyses.
  • Increase leader visibility through rounding on nursing units to optimize patient care, enhance patient safety, and empower, support, and develop staff.
  • Collaborate with physicians, inpatient staff, and admissions staff on medical necessity issues and determination of appropriate level of care and bed placement.
  • Promote harmonious working relationships in nursing units and other hospital departments.

  • Participate in nursing and management staff committee work.

  • Enforce policies, procedures, and processes for nursing units and assist in revising them when appropriate.
  • Assist in quality improvement projects, including PDSA processes, auditing, and data collection, as directed.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the organization of the hospital and patient care services.
  • Utilize effective methods for disseminating general information, written policies, and procedures.
  • Analyze and evaluate nursing care provided to supervised units and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Support and participate in staff development programs.
  • Obtain medications from the Pharmacy in the absence of the Pharmacist and implement appropriate pharmacy procedures.
  • Assist in resolving medication dispensing cabinet discrepancies.
  • Respond to and coordinate medical codes/rapid responses, fire, safety, and disaster situations.
  • Assist in evaluating resources needed for patient safety and behavioral health safety observations, including data collection and submission for remote sitter needs.
  • Follow all general and departmental safety, security, and health procedures and policies.
  • Utilize all safe work practices recommended for the department.
  • Ensure employees practice safety in all departments within the hospital.
  • Orient new employees to hazardous materials, safety, and proper use of equipment when needed.
  • May perform bedside clinical care and/or assume a patient assignment during staffing challenges or periods of unstable staffing.
