About The Position

Hilton Garden Inn Iowa City Downtown University is seeking a Group Sales Manager to sell rooms, VUE Rooftop, and the 2nd-floor event venue. This role focuses on securing group bookings, particularly for low and shoulder seasons, and building relationships with clients to encourage repeat business. The position involves a significant amount of outside sales calls, client visits, and community engagement.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Punctuality and reliability.
  • Positive thinking, energetic, and team-oriented personality.
  • Ability to stand; use hands to handle, grasp or type; and talk or hear.
  • Ability to walk and reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to occasionally sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, bend or twist; smell; and to push, pull or lift over 10 pounds.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must follow proper safety precautions at all times to avoid injuries.

Responsibilities

  • Sells the products and services of the hotel, banquet, and restaurant, with an emphasis on guest room sales for low and shoulder seasons.
  • Makes solicitation and service calls in person, via mail/email, and by telephone on assigned accounts.
  • Conducts outside sales calls, making them the majority of the work week (over 50%).
  • Responds to inquiries from customers, prospects, other hotels, and the corporate office.
  • Prepares proposals and confirmations for group bookings.
  • Conducts property tours for prospective customers.
  • Informs other departments of upcoming events and collaborates for proper planning.
  • Maintains and uses the accounts tracing system/database and customer account files.
  • Follows company credit and deposit policies.
  • Prepares sales reports and records sales calls and activities.
  • Monitors guest satisfaction through follow-up surveys, thank you cards, and calls.
  • Participates in industry and civic organizations to promote business opportunities.
  • Tracks competition activities and the hotel's market position.
  • Participates in sales department meetings and weekly management meetings.
  • Plans and participates in sales blitzes and outside after-hours functions.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of marketing plans and action plans.
  • Develops ideas for special promotions, packages, and occupancy building.
  • Meets and/or exceeds individual quantitative revenue and production goals.
  • Participates in the Manager on Duty (MOD) program.
  • Provides direction to all banquet and catering staff members.
  • Acts as management over the sales staff in the Director of Sales’ absence.
