About The Position

The Hot Wound Coiling Operator is responsible for operating coiling equipment to produce springs according to specifications. This role involves reviewing production orders, preparing materials and tooling, setting up and adjusting machinery, monitoring operating conditions, conducting inspections, and troubleshooting production issues. The operator must maintain a safe and organized work environment.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret technical instructions, blueprints, and shop orders.
  • Strong attention to detail and measurement accuracy.
  • Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with tooling setup.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and handle high-temperature materials.
  • Ability to lift and handle heavy materials and tooling.
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with heat and moving machinery.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with CNC machinery or industrial production equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret shop orders, setup cards, and routing instructions prior to production.
  • Perform pre-setup tasks while equipment is running, including staging materials, tooling, and mandrels.
  • Verify raw material specifications such as bar diameter, length, grade, and quantity to ensure compliance with order requirements.
  • Load and manage materials using the bar handling system according to established procedures.
  • Select, inspect, and prepare tooling components including mandrels, rollers, plates, and racks.
  • Set up and adjust the coiling equipment to achieve required spring dimensions and tolerances.
  • Monitor furnace temperatures, quench systems, and machine performance to maintain proper operating conditions.
  • Apply graphite and other treatments to tooling as required to ensure smooth operation and prevent material sticking.
  • Conduct in-process inspections and record measurements on required documentation (e.g., Spring Routing Sheets).
  • Troubleshoot setup or production issues and communicate concerns to the Production Supervisor.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, ensuring all tools and equipment are properly stored and functional.
