About The Position

Valero is hiring a Hosting and Infrastructure Platform Engineer to design, implement, and maintain enterprise information systems infrastructure, primarily focused on operating systems, server hardware, virtualization, and containerization across on-premises and cloud environments. The role is based at Valero’s San Antonio headquarters and requires on-site, in-person work. The engineer supports infrastructure solutions aligned with industry and company standards and contributes to long-term hosting infrastructure planning. The position designs, implements, and operates enterprise systems using RHEL Linux, Windows Server, container orchestration platforms, Broadcom VCF, Cisco UCS hardware, and infrastructure that supports emerging technologies such as AI/ML workloads. The role also manages infrastructure lifecycle operations, workload domain configuration, and integration with storage and network platforms. The engineer collaborates with infrastructure, application development, security, data, platform, and AI engineering teams. Responsibilities include documenting technical knowledge and specifications, coordinating procedures and communications following system changes, analyzing performance and capacity, recommending complex solutions, applying IT methodologies, and following ITIL-based change, incident, and request processes. This is a salaried exempt position and is not eligible for overtime pay.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
At least 5 years of experience with Windows Server operating systems, virtualization, and server hardware.
Able and willing to work on-site, in person, at the Valero San Antonio location.
Experience with service management processes and procedures for change, incident, and request.
Experience operating and maintaining a variety of complex, mission-critical information systems.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree or higher, or foreign equivalent degree, in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
Experience with Windows Server OS and VMware VCF and VKS.
Experience with Azure and AWS cloud services.
Experience with RHEL 8 or 9 and Red Hat Satellite in an enterprise environment.
Experience with Cisco UCS Manager, Cisco IMC management, and Cisco Intersight in a large environment.
Experience with containerized environments such as Kubernetes and Podman.
PowerShell and Python scripting experience.
Knowledge of modern storage platforms such as NetApp, Pure, or Hitachi; Cisco networking; and data protection platforms such as Rubrik, Cohesity, or Commvault.

Responsibilities

Support, design, and implement enterprise infrastructure technology solutions aligned with industry and company standards, including on-premises, virtualization, container platforms, and cloud.
Contribute to long-term planning for hosting infrastructure solutions.
Design, implement, and operate enterprise solutions based on RHEL Linux, Windows Server, container orchestration platforms, Broadcom VCF, and systems that enable emerging technologies such as AI/ML workloads.
Design, implement, and operate Cisco UCS server hardware.
Collaborate with infrastructure, application development, and security teams to ensure solutions meet organizational needs.
Manage and maintain infrastructure lifecycle operations, workload domain configuration, and integration with storage and network platforms.
Document acquired knowledge and technical specifications in the knowledge management system in accordance with established standards.
Coordinate adoption of procedures resulting from software and hardware changes, including system specifications, documentation, training, and communication plans.
Analyze performance and capacity and recommend quality complex solutions.
Understand and apply IT methodologies, including project management, development, service management, and system architecture.
Follow ITIL-based service management processes for change, incident, and request.
Collaborate with data, platform, and AI engineering teams to support infrastructure reliability, performance, and scalability for AI/ML workloads and GPU-enabled systems.
