About The Position

The Rec Room is a revolutionary new entertainment concept in Canada, offering a wide range of attractions including simulation games, redemption gaming, luxury bowling, billiards, shuffleboard, and ping pong. It also features an auditorium-style venue for live entertainment and a theatre-sized screen for viewing events. The dining experience includes an upscale casual environment with an open kitchen, a contemporary menu, and an "eatertainment-style" concept in the games area. A large center bar area with a stage serves as a gathering spot. The Rec Room integrates a cutting-edge interactive technology platform to enhance the guest experience. Cineplex Entertainment is recruiting for a Host/Server Assistant at The Rec Room Deerfoot in Calgary. This multifaceted role supports restaurant operations by providing high levels of customer service, maintaining menu and promotion knowledge, delivering food and beverages, clearing tables, and ensuring food and beverage quality and presentation. The role also involves assisting with cleanliness, stocking service stations, supporting other staff, maintaining bar supplies, changing kegs, preparing garnishes, and assisting with dishwashing when needed. The Host/Server Assistant ensures a positive hospitality experience across all areas of the venue, including the dining room, bar, amusement floor, and Shed area.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Strong customer service and troubleshooting skills.
  • Exceptional conflict resolution, negotiation, and objection handling skills.
  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to work well under pressure.
  • Able to work in a high paced environment and to complete multiple tasks at one time.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-3 years of experience as a Server Assistant, Host, Runner, Barback, or Busser, or in a similar capacity considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Greet guests upon entry and ensure guest are comfortable navigating the dining areas, gaming areas, and other building amenities.
  • Receive and record guests' reservations and assign tables.
  • Greet guests at entrance of dining room and escort them to tables or other seating areas.
  • Maintain familiarity with the composition of all menu items.
  • Speak with guests to ensure satisfaction with food and service, and attend to complaints.
  • Let Rec Room leadership know about necessary dining room supplies and equipment.
  • Inspect dining and serving areas and equipment.
  • Support and co-ordinate activities of food and beverage servers and other serving staff.
  • Clean agreed designated areas, in accordance with downtime procedures, morning/evening routines and hygiene requirements.
  • Change table linen as required and ensure dirty or damaged linen is counted and exchanged for clean, usable items.
  • At all times to be aware of and practice good customer relations, assisting the guest in any way which does not adversely affect other customers.
  • Attend to customer complaints satisfactorily.
  • Deliver prepared food to guests, ensuring the entire table’s food arrives at the same time.
  • Monitor food distribution, ensuring that meals have been prepared to the Rec Room standard and the Guest’s specification, and is delivered to the correct guest by table and seat number.
  • Deliver food items with appropriate condiments when required.
  • Return food and drink items if a change or correction is required, and return the newly prepared item to the guest after the necessary changes have been made.
  • Fill water glasses and refillable drinks.
  • Collaborate with wait staff to ensure that tables are cleared, cleaned, and ready for the next party.
  • Remove trays and stack dishes for return to the kitchen or bar after guests are finished.
  • Assist with and maintain the cleanliness of the restaurant and bar areas, maintain clean appearances.
  • Stock service stations with items such as ice, napkins, or straws.
  • Provide assistance to the wait staff, bar staff and kitchen staff as needed.
  • Maintain liquor and bar supplies during shift.
  • Handle and move objects such as glasses and bottles.
  • Change Kegs in the walk-in Bar fridge.
  • Prepare bar beverage garnishes to recipe / as instructed.
  • Assist in washing dishes if the kitchen staff gets behind during the busier times of the day.
  • Arrange tables for large parties and prepare the banquet hall for scheduled gatherings.
  • Ensure guest service is paramount during work hours.
  • Other duties as assigned.
