About The Position

The host or hostess is the restaurant’s critical first impression and is empowered to create memorable guest experiences. The role welcomes and seats guests, supports reservations and special functions, maintains the dining room setup, and coordinates communication between shifts and management. The position requires regular attendance and availability, along with effective, positive interactions with guests and coworkers.

Requirements

• Comprehend guest requests, memos, reservations, promotional materials, event orders, and similar written materials.
• Remember, recite, and promote the variety of menu items.
• Move throughout a crowded room to seat guests, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Effectively address customer complaints and concerns in a friendly, positive manner by listening, demonstrating empathy, and offering proactive solutions.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, customers, and patrons.
• Use effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Adapt communication style to different audiences, including supervisors, coworkers, and the public.

Responsibilities

• Meet and greet guests, offer seating choices, escort them to their table, and present the menu.
• Read, maintain, and make daily entries in the logbook to coordinate communication between shifts and management.
• Maintain the proper setup of the dining room.
• Receive and record reservations and make necessary arrangements for restaurant reservations and special functions.
• Comply with attendance rules and be available to work on a regular basis.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
