About The Position

The Hospitality Worker – Dining Services reports to the Hospitality Supervisor and is responsible for serving menu items, maintaining inventory, washing dishes, setting/clearing/cleaning dining areas, and sanitizing food delivery tools and equipment. A strong focus on resident satisfaction, safe food handling, and sanitation practices is essential. The food services department aims for exceptional variety and service through continuous improvement and resident-centered service. This role contributes to a positive culture where residents feel respected, valued, and cared for, while drawing out the best efforts of staff to ensure high levels of satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent
  • Clear Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check
  • WHMIS Certificate (or willing to obtain)
  • 1-3 years’ experience in a similar role preferred
  • Experience in a Retirement Living setting preferred
  • Proficient in both written and spoken English.
  • Understanding and proven ability of basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families and co-workers.
  • Must have the manual dexterity required for handling equipment and supplies.
  • Must be flexible and adapt easily to changes in schedule, work assignments and environment.
  • Must be willing and capable of working in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Model the organization’s mission, vision, and values, consistently representing Covenant professionally and positively.
  • Collaborate effectively as a professional team player, supporting the achievement of Covenant’s Mission, Vision and Values.
  • Regularly show a friendly presence in the dining room to welcome comments and suggestions about the food and dining experience to ensure maximum resident satisfaction and efficiency.
  • Perform resident meal service delivery with the support of the food service team.
  • Provide attentive care and consideration of resident, staff and visitors requests.
  • Prepare tables in dining areas before mealtimes with items such as napkins, placemats, utensils, condiments, and beverages.
  • Clear and clean resident dining tables and chairs and service areas.
  • Operate dishwashing machine, stack clean dishes and utensils, set, clear and clean dining tables.
  • Operate dispensing machines and other related equipment.
  • Perform cleaning tasks such as sweeping and damp mopping floors; sanitizing counter tops, sinks, machines and equipment; spot washing walls and splash areas; removing and disposing of trash.
  • Replenish beverage containers in refrigerator; tidy kitchenette and replenish supplies; re-stock refrigerator; drain and reset coffee urns.
  • Ensure that high standards of sanitation, cleanliness and safety are maintained throughout the kitchen and food and beverage service areas at all times.
  • Assist in implementing special and marketing events (chef’s table, special dinners, theme events, happy hour).
  • Perform related clerical duties such as collating orders for the next day, coordinating with concierge regarding tray service / meal pick-up, residents in the hospital/away, and guest reservations and documenting information on menu cards.
  • Manage inventory and replenishment of unit specific supplies.
  • Complete all temperature logs.
  • Ensure all Covenant Living policies are adhered to.
  • Ensure effective team communication within the residence, log any concerns regarding resident behavior in an incident report.
  • Maintain effective and oral and written communication and good human relations with residents, families and staff of other departments, using appropriate lines of communication.
  • Ensure that high standards of customer service, sanitation, cleanliness and safety are maintained throughout the dining room, Country Kitchen and Bistro service areas at all times.
  • Respond to ongoing priorities within the site.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required by the Executive Chef/Manager, Hospitality Supervisor or Site Manager.
