This position also entails leading large-scale organizational change efforts and fostering an environment of excellence in patient/family service, staff development, quality nursing care, and staff engagement and satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Professional Nurse licensure in New York State.
  • Doctoral degree (PhD or DNP) in clinical nursing practice or research required.
  • Certification in nursing leadership required.
  • Ability to apply nursing process toward achievement of specific outcomes in an organized fashion to address patient/family satisfaction and quality indicators.
  • Excellent communication (both oral and written), interpersonal, organization, critical thinking, problem solving, and leadership skills.
  • Minimum 5 years Leadership or supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, implements, and evaluates programs for multiple nursing units or departments, providing executive leadership to ensure compliance with accreditation, regulatory standards, service standards, and policies at all levels.
  • Collaborates with the interprofessional team, leading the nursing division to ensure excellence in quality, patient experience, and efficiency, and develops strategic partnerships across disciplines.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of interdisciplinary outcome standards and leads quality and performance improvement projects.
  • Fosters positive and productive work and care environments based on diversity, equity, and inclusion to attract and retain staff, with a commitment to engaging and recognizing staff.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to lifelong professional growth and development.
  • Conducts interviews, hires, develops, and evaluates departmental leadership according to established standards.
  • Evaluates the performance of personnel in a fair and transparent manner.
  • Serves as a role model by demonstrating visibility, accessibility, and effective communication that conveys advocacy and support for staff and leadership.
  • Establishes a financial plan and utilizes data for strategic decisions, designing operational and capital budgets, monitoring expenses, and evaluating outcomes.
  • Coordinates care delivery using labor productivity data to plan and evaluate staffing patterns, discharge, and volume targets, guiding clinical leaders in staffing validation.
  • Holds self and others accountable for exemplary care delivery in a cost-efficient manner.
  • Coordinates and facilitates activities to promote service and interdisciplinary teamwork, role-modeling service standards.
  • Develops, approves, and implements nursing and organizational policy, incorporating shared governance principles.
  • Collects, analyzes, and utilizes data to drive practice changes that integrate quality, safety, patient experience, and productivity metrics.
  • Drives staff involvement in nursing research and evidence-based practice efforts.
  • Fosters high reliability concepts within the unit/organizational structure.
  • Communicates with clarity and integrity to build trust with all stakeholders.
  • Fosters a culture of inquiry, innovation, and transformation with a focus on the future.
  • Leads and supports the development of new insights to complex situations, innovative designs, and programs/processes.
  • Responsible for maintaining knowledge and ensuring compliance with the current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and responding timely to Step 2 grievances.
