About The Position

Specialty Care Advanced Practice Providers deliver comprehensive care within a designated specialty, managing both acute and chronic conditions in hospitalized patients. The Hospital Medicine APP provides evidence-based inpatient care through assessment, diagnosis, treatment, care coordination, and discharge planning while partnering closely with physicians, nursing, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure exceptional patient outcomes.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
  • Nurse Practitioners must hold a Master’s Degree or Doctorate in Nursing Practice with Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) or Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) board certification.
  • Physician Assistants must hold certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA); CAQ certification preferred.
  • Current license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in North Carolina.
  • Current prescriptive privileges and DEA registration.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers through the American Heart Association, valid at least 90 days beyond start date.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced inpatient environment with excellent critical thinking, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to perform comprehensive history and physical examinations and formulate appropriate treatment plans.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Nice To Haves

  • CAQ certification preferred for Physician Assistants.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive initial and follow-up history and physical examinations.
  • Conduct daily inpatient rounding and ongoing patient assessments.
  • Evaluate, admit, and consult on hospitalized adult medicine patients.
  • Develop, implement, and modify treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians.
  • Order, interpret, and manage laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic studies.
  • Prescribe medications and therapeutic interventions within scope of practice.
  • Perform minor medical procedures as appropriate and within credentialing guidelines.
  • Coordinate patient care with physicians, nursing staff, case management, pharmacy, specialists, rehabilitation services, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and discharge planning to promote safe, timely transitions of care.
  • Document all patient encounters, assessments, procedures, and treatment plans accurately and timely in the electronic medical record.
  • Serve as a patient advocate while promoting quality, safety, patient satisfaction, and evidence-based practice.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, quality improvement initiatives, continuing education, and policy development as requested.
