About The Position

At Stony Brook Medicine, Hospital Attendants are valuable members of the team. The primary role of the Hospital Attendant on Labor and Delivery is anesthesia stocking, a function coordinated with the anesthesia team because the unit does not have anesthesia technicians. The attendant may not provide direct patient care. Qualified candidates should demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and time management, attention to detail, and the ability to work with all levels of the organization. The role supports a clean, orderly, safe environment for patients, visitors, and personnel. Duties include organizing and restocking unit supplies, assisting with room turnover, maintaining equipment, arranging repairs, cleaning equipment according to recommendations, and transporting patients as required. The attendant also supports colleagues and new employees, maintains patient rights and confidentiality, follows infection-control policies, and uses unit supplies and equipment safely and cost-effectively. This is a full-time night-shift position, scheduled 11:00 PM–7:30 AM. The position may require changes to pass days and shifts. It may require respiratory protection, which may prohibit facial hair, and may be designated essential during institutional emergencies. Candidates must complete pre-employment medical clearance, an electronic reference check with at least three professional references, a four-panel drug screen, and regulatory pre-employment screenings.
