About The Position

The mission of Southern University and A&M College, an Historically Black, 1890 land-grant institution, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is to provide a student-focused teaching and learning environment that creates global leadership opportunities for a diverse student population where teaching, research, service, scholarly and creative expectations for students and faculty are achieved through the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs offered at the institution via different instructional modalities and via public service. The Horticultural Attendant to provide landscaping and campus grooming to the Southern University Baton Rouge Campus.

Requirements

One year of experience or training in farming, the care and maintenance of trees and shrubs, or groundskeeping; OR Six semester hours in a plant science or landscape field of study.

Responsibilities

Maintaining and taking care of plants, trees, etc.
Pruning and trimming trees and shrubs as needed
Maintaining flower beds, removing dead grass or overgrowth of weeds, etc.
Assisting Horticultural Attendant Foreman and Leader as needed
Assisting with picking up paper on the campus grounds
Assisting with cutting and grooming the campus grounds
Responsible for the overall beautification of the campus grounds as other crafts assigned to this department under the direction of the Horticultural Attendant Foreman
Checking lawn equipment, tools, etc., weekly
Submitting work orders as needed for repairs on equipment assigned during tour of duty
Performing other related work as directed or required
