About The Position

Works with and directs Horticulture Attendants, Mobile Equipment Operators, and other labor to maintain the grounds and landscaping of the LSU Baton Rouge campus and other off-site LSU properties as directed. The work may involve adverse weather conditions, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working weekends or after hours as necessary. The position is emergency essential and may require reporting to campus during an emergency or closure.

Requirements

Two years of experience or training in farming, care and maintenance of trees and shrubs, or groundskeeping; or 12 semester hours in a plant science or landscape field of study.
Valid Louisiana Class E driver's license.
Ability to lift 50 pounds.
Ability to work in adverse weather conditions and on weekends and after hours as necessary.
Must undergo a motor vehicle record check, drug screening, and physical evaluation based on job demands.
Valid U.S. work authorization at the time of hire and throughout employment.

Responsibilities

Work with and direct grounds workers, contractors, and supplemental labor to maintain assigned grounds to required safety, appearance, and health standards.
Operate, or direct others operating, power riding tractors and mowers, and maintain entrances, canals, building and tree perimeters, roadsides, and other areas in a neat, clean, and safe condition.
Support other crews as needed.
Direct or personally perform chemical applications for weed and pest control, fertilization, and soil amendment; apply mulch; remove weeds and litter; assist with ornamental and flower planting; and service litter containers and remove cigarette butts.
Direct or personally assist with irrigation work, digging, grading, drain basin cleaning, and other grounds-related tasks.
Fill in for a Horticulture Attendant Foreman by directing two or more crews and completing timesheets and vacancy paperwork as required.
Perform other work as necessary.
