About The Position

Southeastern Louisiana University’s Department of Physical Plant Services is hiring a Laborer/Horticultural Attendant to maintain turf and landscapes in an assigned campus area under the guidance of a Horticulturist supervisor. Turf maintenance includes mowing, string trimming, edging, and blowing. Landscape maintenance includes pruning, mulching, weed control, and chemical applications. The position may also assist with landscape installation and planting projects.

This is a career progression position. Applicants who do not meet the minimum qualifications for Horticultural Attendant may be hired as Laborers. Once they meet the Horticultural Attendant minimum qualifications and have established satisfactory performance, they may move to the Horticultural Attendant job title. If filled as a Job Appointment, the position may be converted to a probational appointment if funding becomes available.

The schedule is Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with a 30-minute lunch. The hourly rate is $10.70 for Laborer and $16.06 for Horticultural Attendant.

Requirements

• One year of experience or training in farming, care and maintenance of trees and shrubs, or groundskeeping; or six semester hours in a plant science or landscape field of study.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Must be able to be certified through the Southeastern Defensive Driving Course.
