About The Position

The New York Post is expanding to the West Coast with the opening of a new newsroom in Los Angeles, and this is an opportunity to be part of this significant investment. The California Post aims to be a game-changer by prioritizing the people of California and holding the powerful accountable across digital and print platforms. We are looking for a Homepage Editor to join the California Post team. This role reports to the Digital Editor and is part of the digital team, working with other Homepage Editors and Associate Digital Editors to package stories and ensure the homepage reflects the latest news developments. The position involves curating and updating the homepage with strong headlines, engaging visuals, and a clear editorial focus, while continuously monitoring story performance. The Homepage Editor will adjust placement, framing, and packaging to maximize reach and engagement, and will collaborate with reporters and editors across desks to ensure the homepage provides the most timely and impactful news coverage. Homepage Editors are expected to be versatile journalists capable of pitching, writing, and reporting news stories when necessary.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience as a breaking news/homepage editor in a fast-paced online newsroom
  • Track record of managing or programming a homepage, ensuring balanced coverage across verticals and highlighting the most important stories of the moment
  • Strong editorial judgment and communication skills, with a proven ability to prioritize and package stories that drive digital engagement
  • Hands-on experience with WordPress is required, with comfort navigating a CMS under deadline pressure
  • Proven ability to write sharp, web-friendly headlines that are optimized for both readers and search engines
  • Demonstrated familiarity with SEO best practices and how they inform digital publishing strategy
  • Experience using analytics tools to monitor performance in real time and adjust story framing, placement, and packaging accordingly
  • Ability to leverage visuals, multimedia, and social media to enhance stories and maximize reach
  • Comfort working in a highly collaborative environment with editors, reporters, and digital producers
  • Flexibility to work nights and weekends as news demands
