About The Position

This is a highly responsible professional position involving difficult and complex work comprising a variety of tasks requiring independent decisions within established practices. Duties and responsibilities are under the direction of the Director of Administrative Rules.

Requirements

  • Ability to write and edit effectively to produce a variety of informational materials.

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university required or the equivalent combination of education and experience in English, journalism, writing, or closely related area.
  • Experience or ability to work with InDesign publishing software and Creative Cloud.
  • Experience or ability to work with Adobe Acrobat Pro.

Nice To Haves

  • At least one year experience in editing or publishing desirable.
  • Knowledge of ADA-accessible document standards is desirable but not required.
  • Knowledge of the administrative rulemaking process is desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Format InDesign files for publication of the Missouri Register.
  • Assist the Publication Specialist as needed in formatting InDesign files for publication in the Code of State Regulations (CSR) update.
  • Receive filings of proposed rulemakings and other documents filed by state officials and agencies for publication in the Missouri Register.
  • Proofread and make editing markups for proposed rulemaking(s) and other documents by private reading or with another reader/proofer, including checking fiscal notes for required information.
  • Liaison with state agencies regarding any questions on proofs and corrections needed, make corrections to InDesign files based on agency responses, and review the final corrections in conjunction with the managing editor.
  • Use Content Management System (CMS) to post new issues of the Missouri Register, emergency rulemakings, and other documents.
  • Check Revised Statutes of Missouri citations for proposed rulemakings and orders of rulemaking to make sure they are correct.
  • Assist agencies with rulemaking as needed, including working with agencies on any rule(s) they plan to file prior to the filing, assisting with calculating critical filing dates, and helping determine effective dates for the rule(s).
  • Answer phones as needed and answer questions from agencies or the public on the rulemaking process.
  • Assist the Director in form or content decisions as asked and needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.
