About The Position

Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County is on a mission to provide Hope, Respect, and New Beginnings to our unsheltered neighbors through discipleship and the transformational love of Christ. The Homeless Outreach Specialist serves as a compassionate and Christ-centered advocate for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. This role involves direct street outreach, needs assessment, crisis intervention, and service navigation to promote healing, dignity, and long-term stability. Guided by trauma-informed care and the transformational love of Christ, the specialist builds trusting relationships and connects clients to vital resources, while collaborating with internal teams and community partners.

Requirements

  • A heart for ministry and a deep commitment to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Valid Class “C” Driver’s License.
  • Two (2) years of experience in social work or related field.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in dynamic, high-emotion environment.
  • Experience in homeless outreach or working with vulnerable populations.
  • Knowledge of local community resources and housing.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed care, mental health, addiction, and domestic violence.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Ministry, or related field preferred.
  • Bilingual skills a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular outreach in shelters, encampments, and public spaces.
  • Build authentic, respectful, and non-judgmental relationships with clients.
  • Offer prayer and spiritual encouragement when appropriate and welcomed by the client.
  • Maintain a consistent presence to foster trust and engagement.
  • Perform personalized assessments to identify client needs and goals.
  • Address barriers such as trauma, mental health, substance use, and domestic violence.
  • Connect clients to housing, healthcare, food assistance, employment, and other services.
  • Occasionally transport clients to appointments or shelters.
  • Provide trauma-informed crisis response and emotional support.
  • Use de-escalation and co-regulation techniques to promote safety.
  • Advocate for clients within systems to ensure equitable access to services.
  • Partner with internal teams, churches, and external organizations.
  • Attend community meetings, case reviews, and collaborative planning sessions.
  • Respond to referrals from various stakeholders including law enforcement and faith-based groups.
  • Maintain accurate, timely records of outreach activities and client progress.
  • Collect and present data related to outreach efforts.
  • Uphold strict confidentiality and ethical standards.
  • Educate clients about available resources and support systems.
  • Encourage goal-setting, personal agency, and spiritual renewal.
  • Support clients in their journey toward healing and stability.
