About The Position

The Home Visitor position in the HIPPY (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters) Program is designed to support newcomer parents, especially mothers, in becoming their child’s first and most important teacher. The role is grounded in relationship-building, school readiness, and community connection. The Home Visitation role is structured as a three-year position, running from September to June each year, with a seasonal layoff during July and August and rehire the following September. The Home Visitor will conduct weekly home visits, model learning activities, lead group sessions, and support community events, all while reporting to the HIPPY Coordinator.

Requirements

  • Experience engaging in cross-cultural or immigrant-serving settings.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Familiar with local family and newcomer resources.
  • Empathetic, organized, and able to work both independently and in a team.
  • Emotionally mature, culturally sensitive, and adaptable.
  • Comfortable with digital tools and home-based programming.
  • High school diploma (or equivalent experience).
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and clean abstract.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional languages are an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct weekly home visits delivering the 30-week HIPPY curriculum.
  • Model activities and role-play parent–child interactions.
  • Facilitate group sessions and community-building events.
  • Participate in pre-service and ongoing professional development.
  • Maintain accurate records and submit timely progress reports.
  • Communicate family updates to the HIPPY Coordinator.
  • Support special events (e.g. field trips, graduations).
