About The Position

The Visitation Aide will be responsible for transporting children and/or parents to and from visitation locations, ensuring the safety of passengers, and maintaining the vehicle. This role also involves supervising visits as needed, documenting transportation encounters and visits, and communicating with visitation specialists, parents, resource parents, and children. The Visitation Aide will engage with families in a culturally sensitive manner, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for parent-child contact that promotes healthy attachment. They will also create an environment that empowers family members to communicate their goals and needs, utilizing various communication techniques in a culturally competent manner. The role requires operating from a trauma-informed perspective and advocating for parents/families as necessary.

Requirements

High School Diploma or Equivalent
Minimum of 1 year experience with children and families, particularly families involved with the child welfare system and/ or affected by trauma.
Thirty (30) semester hour credits from an accredited college, which must include twelve (12) semester hour credits in the behavioral sciences, may be substituted for the experience listed above.
Required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey and a clean driver’s abstract.

Responsibilities

Transporting children and/or parents to and from visitation locations.
Ensuring the safety of passengers.
Maintaining the vehicle.
Supervising visits, as needed.
Documenting transportation encounters and visits.
Communicating with visitation specialists, parents, resource parents, children, etc.
Initiating and maintaining ongoing communication with families in a culturally sensitive manner utilizing a family's preferred language taking into consideration a family's faith and culture.
Ensuring the environment for parent-child contact is safe, non-traumatizing, and promotes healthy attachment.
Initiating and maintaining ongoing communication with DCP&P, other providers, and supports.
Creating an environment that empowers family members, including parents, children, and caregivers to communicate their goals and needs.
Utilizing various interviewing and/or communication techniques in a culturally competent manner.
Recognizing non-verbal communication and maintaining good eye contact and posture.
Advocating for parents/families as necessary and supporting them in advocating for themselves.
Operating from a trauma-informed perspective.
