About The Position

The Home Health and Hospice Director is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, controlling, and evaluating the home health and hospice services and operations to optimize the quality of care in alignment with Bethesda's philosophy. This role involves patient management, scheduling, budget management, quality management, and overseeing the overall operations of home health and hospice services, including a team of RNs, LPNs, home health and hospice aides, social workers, and scheduling/office support staff.

Requirements

  • Must be registered and licensed with the State of Minnesota as a RN and must maintain a current and unrestricted licensure.

Responsibilities

  • Select and assign personnel, including interviewing, hiring, and ensuring staff are appropriately licensed and certified.
  • Coordinate with human resources for background checks and ensure all staff remain current with necessary continuing education.
  • Provide orientation and training for all new staff.
  • Monitor staff work performance, including providing in-service opportunities, conducting staff meetings, documenting incidents, monitoring worker compensation cases, completing performance evaluations, and providing corrective action.
  • Ensure all supervision visits of staff are completed as mandated by state and federal regulations.
  • Complete random quality checks with clients to ensure client satisfaction with staff performance.
  • Assure quality client care by overseeing the referral, admission, and scheduling process.
  • Protect and promote the rights of each client, including keeping clients free from abuse and neglect.
  • Investigate, evaluate, report, and follow up on any complaints received.
  • Develop, implement, review, and revise policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services.
  • Assure compliance with State and Federal regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and update survey readiness book.
  • Develop, implement, review, and revise a Quality Assurance/Improvement Program.
  • Oversee RN Coordinators to assure all required assessments and documentation are complete and accurate.
  • Conduct periodic chart audits and assist nurses with coding as needed.
  • Complete timely submissions and provide any needed training and education of nursing tasks/treatments.
  • Maintain schedule for on-call nursing services for after hours and holidays.
  • Track statistical and census information: visits, admissions, discharges, cost/visit, etc.
  • Manage agency finances by completing payroll, reviewing financial and billing reports, monitoring revenue and expenses, and coordinating with the billing office.
  • Ensure all necessary authorizations are in client records for appropriate billing of services and maintain contracts with outside agencies for billing.
  • Maintain all required business licenses.
  • Work with the Vice President of Operations to develop the annual budget.
  • Market and promote Home Health and Hospice services by maintaining liaison with staff, clients, family members, and the community.
  • Work with discharge planners, social workers, and physicians to determine appropriate referrals.
  • Assure accuracy of public information materials and activities.
  • Promote services at health fairs and other community events.
  • Coordinate with the community director to plan and schedule community events to promote home care services and generate referrals.
