About The Position

The HIV Medicine Advanced Practice Clinician (NP/PA) plays a critical role in delivering comprehensive medical care to individuals living with HIV/AIDS, aiming to improve their health outcomes and quality of life. This position involves treating HIV infection and providing comprehensive primary care through evidence-based clinical practices. The APP is expected to see patients independently, but work alongside an HIV physician to provide comprehensive guideline-driven care to complex patients. The practice setting is a federally funded clinic which provides access to care for all persons without regard to ability to pay for services.

Requirements

  • Active Virginia medical license and authority to prescribe.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience providing HIV treatment.
  • Experience prescribing and managing antiretroviral therapy with strong knowledge of HIV pathophysiology, treatment guidelines, and comorbidity management.
  • Experience providing comprehensive primary care
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and telemedicine platforms.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a Community Health Center.
  • Experience working in a Ryan White funded HIV clinic.
  • Experience working with patients experiencing homelessness, substance use disorder, and serious mental illness.
  • Completion of post graduate training in HIV treatment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guideline-supported HIV treatment and comprehensive primary care for persons living with HIV.
  • Facilitate and support multidisciplinary care for patients with co-morbid psychiatric conditions
  • Conduct thorough medical evaluations and histories for patients living with HIV/AIDS.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans including antiretroviral therapy and providing comprehensive primary care.
  • Monitor patient response to treatment through laboratory tests and clinical assessments.
  • Provide counseling and education on medication adherence and prevention of HIV transmission.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including social workers, dentists, psychiatrists, therapists and street outreach workers to ensure holistic patient care.
  • Seek consultation with physician for management of complex patients including those with ART resistance, co-morbid infection , opportunistic infection, and pregnancy.
  • Document patient encounters accurately and maintain compliance with healthcare regulations and confidentiality standards.
