Histotechnologist (Per Diem/Weekends)
About The Position
City of Hope is seeking a Histotechnologist to join its Anatomic Pathology team in the Histopathology Laboratory. The role supports histology laboratory operations and works with the Lead Histotechnologist, reporting directly to the Manager for AP. The position contributes to strategic planning, promotes a collaborative team environment, and provides customer service in support of City of Hope’s mission to improve patient outcomes. This is a per-diem position for 8–12 hours per week, with possible Friday evening and weekend day shifts. Flexibility may be needed to accommodate patient needs; shifts may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. On-call responsibilities and mandatory overtime may also be necessary. The hourly pay rate is $50.0892.
Requirements
- Associate degree and completion of a certified clinical program in medical laboratory sciences in histopathology, or equivalent education/years of experience.
- 0–1 years of experience in a histology laboratory.
- ASCP HT or HTL certification.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with Epic Beaker.
- Knowledge of GI and breast tissue.
Responsibilities
- Prepare high-quality tissues and stained slides.
- Embed and section biopsy, bone marrow, cytology, and routine surgical cases.
- Assist with troubleshooting technical, processing, and staining issues.
- Meet daily workflow functions in a high-throughput histology laboratory.
- Ensure appropriate processing of patient specimens and testing of samples for diagnostic purposes.
- Assist in maintaining the laboratory for State, CMS, and CAP inspections, including reviewing standard operating procedures and participating in laboratory inspections.
