About The Position

The Department of Pathology Gross Room and Morgue Histotechnologist is responsible for a broad range of duties and activities critical to the functioning of Anatomic Pathology (AP). The objective of this position is to ensure a safe and organized environment for patient care by ensuring new employees have adequate training and morgue procedures are followed and constantly evaluated for improvement. This position also provides significant oversight of specimen acceptability, accessioning, specimen labeling, and frozen preparations. A rotation will be required to perform histological tasks in the Histology Department under the supervision of the Histology Supervisor. This position works under the supervision of the Gross Room/Morgue Supervisor, AP Manager, and the Medical Director of Anatomic Pathology. This position requires weekend and Holiday coverage on rotation with other Gross Room/Morgue employees.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in biological science or chemistry, OR a baccalaureate degree with a combination of 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) in biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), which may be obtained within, or in addition to, the baccalaureate degree
  • ASCP HTL certification must be obtained within one year of employment or within one year after completion of eligibility.
  • Eligibility criteria is as follows: successful completion of NACCL accredited Histotechnician or Histotechnologist program within the last five years OR completion of 12 consecutive months of full time on the job training in a histopathology laboratory within the last five years.
  • Persons must have proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of anatomic pathology experience
  • Professional License/Certification (Certified by ASCP or equivalent).
  • Experience in a hospital setting.
  • EPIC training

Responsibilities

  • Performs all quality control and preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment and temperature control required by regulatory entities.
  • Assist in lab inventory control, cleanliness and organization.
  • Floor lead on productivity delegation, training, and critical thinking.
  • Ensuring proper handling and processing of all specimens received in the lab, including but not limited to, patient identification, specimen protocol triage, specimen and lab troubleshooting, grossing, embedding, frozen sections, etc.
  • Perform other duties as needed
