About The Position

Apex Skin is a physician-led and rapidly growing dermatology practice committed to delivering exceptional patient experiences. We are seeking a talented and motivated Histotechnician to support our Mohs surgery team at our Canton A office. This role is responsible for the technical preparation of tissue specimens, including accessioning, processing, cutting, staining, and preparing frozen sections for Mohs surgery. The position also involves operating and maintaining histology equipment, preparing reagents, performing quality control procedures, and maintaining a safe, clean laboratory environment in accordance with OSHA and CLIA standards. The ideal candidate is ASCP certified with strong histology and frozen-section experience, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues in a fast-paced surgical environment. Experience in Mohs or surgical histology is preferred, along with strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills. This is a full-time, hourly position and is located at our Canton A location.

Requirements

  • ASCP Certifi cation
  • Associates degree in Biology, Chemistry, Histology or related field required
  • Current and valid CPR certification
  • Experience with processing frozen sections and highly skilled grossing preferred
  • At least one year of surgical or Mohs experience preferred
  • American Society for Mohs Histotechnology membership preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask, stay organized, and manage time effectively
  • Proficiency in basic computer software, medical terminology, and EMR documentation

  • Experience in Mohs or surgical histology is preferred
  • American Society for Mohs Histotechnology membership preferred

Responsibilities

  • Performs technical duties related to production of histology pathological slides
  • Receives and accessions of tissue, cytology specimens and prepares specimens for storage, preservation, identification, and labeling
  • Cuts and stains thin sections according to established procedures for routine and special stains
  • Assists with cutting and staining of tissues for frozen sections
  • Disposes stains and cleans glass containers and petri dishes
  • Maintains equipment, instruments, and cleanliness of working area, and maintains a safe, clean work environment including proper labeling and storage of chemicals and specimens (and disposal of same)
  • Research , troubleshoots, and resolves histology related inquiries and problems within the laboratory
  • Prepares frozen tissues on routine Mohs surgery specimens
  • Prepares reagent, solution, and stain as needed according to specific instructions and labels
  • Operates and maintains equipment within the scope of training.
  • Uses defined scheduled and written instructions to perform quality control checks and preventive maintenance
  • Records daily temperatures of cryostat
  • Maintains and applies in-depth knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments and their interrelationships to resolve technical and mechanical problems
  • Maintains log for patient identification system
  • Ensures a safe environment in the lab according to OSHA standards ( i.e. changing fume hood filters, safety glasses, gloves)
  • Performs Quality Control procedures
  • Maintains and updates OSHA and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) records
