About The Position

First State Heritage Park reveals the cultural treasures of Delaware’s capital city from pre-history to the modern day. The Historical Park Interpreter facilitates quality guest experiences by conducting interpretive programs that enhance historic consciousness, fostering affinity for the cultural and natural resources stewarded by Delaware State Parks, and providing exemplary customer service. The position offers opportunities to craft interpretive programs and perform in specialized First-Person programs. It is a year-round casual seasonal, part-time position working 15–20 hours per week. Weekend, evening, and holiday availability is required as scheduled. This position reports to the Interpretive Programs Manager.

Requirements

At least six months of experience working with children and young adults, such as environmental education, classroom assistance, academic or athletic tutoring, camp counseling, or youth volunteering.
Experience with the care and handling of animals.
Knowledge of natural, cultural, or historical resources, or parks and recreation.
Knowledge of public speaking or interpretation.
Possession of a valid driver’s license that is not suspended, revoked, cancelled, or disqualified.

Responsibilities

Lead school and public educational programs tied to State standards to increase awareness and understanding of Delaware’s cultural resources.
Develop and maintain exhibits, educational materials, and historical site materials.
Provide customer service and park information to visitors.
Plan, organize, and conduct interpretive walks, programs, and tours.
Perform custodial services in historic sites and offices.
Set up, monitor, and support park programs and special events.
Demonstrate responsibility, dependability, good communication skills, and a positive attitude.
Perform other duties as assigned.
