As a HIRA Reporting Analyst, you’ll play a key role in strengthening emergency management and risk-informed decision-making across government. About the Role The HIRA Reporting Analyst supports the development and continuous improvement of Alberta’s Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) program. In this role, you will research, analyze, and communicate disaster risk information, producing high-quality reports, briefings, and communications products that inform senior leaders, government partners, municipalities, and other partners. Your work will contribute directly to enhancing Alberta’s emergency management and disaster risk reduction capabilities.

Requirements

University degree in Business, Public Administration, Risk Management, Humanities, or Social Sciences. or related, PLUS 2 years related experience or equivalent as described
Experience researching, analyzing, and synthesizing complex information into reports and recommendations.
Strong report writing, briefing, and communication skills.
Experience interpreting data, identifying trends, and developing evidence-based recommendations.
Experience conducting policy, program, or cross-jurisdictional research.
Experience working with multiple partner and relationship-building skills.
Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality work under tight timelines.
Experience working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.

Nice To Haves

Experience in emergency management, disaster risk reduction, or risk assessment.
Knowledge of risk reporting and risk communication practices.
Experience developing dashboards, visual reports, or data visualization products.
Experience creating governance documents, procedures, or operational guidance.
Experience working with municipalities, Indigenous communities, or multi-jurisdictional partners.
Knowledge of Alberta's emergency management framework and legislation.

Responsibilities

Leading the development of HIRA reports, briefing materials, presentations, and risk communication products for diverse audiences.
Researching and analyzing hazard, risk, and vulnerability information to identify trends, emerging issues, and opportunities for program improvement.
Synthesizing complex data, evidence, and partner input into clear recommendations and actionable insights for decision-makers.
Supporting the development of reporting frameworks, governance documents, operational guidance, and communications protocols.
Collaborating with ministries, municipalities, Indigenous communities, and other partners to advance risk assessment and reporting initiatives.
Participating in cross-government projects, working groups, and partner engagement activities that support emergency management objectives.
Monitoring leading practices, policies, and risk management approaches across jurisdictions to inform continuous improvement of the HIRA program.
Providing operational support during emergency activations, including assisting the Provincial Emergency Coordination Centre when required.
