About The Position

The HIMS Technician compiles, processes, and maintains patient records in accordance with healthcare requirements and standards. The role supports accurate and complete health information management for discharged inpatients and monitors medical-record deficiencies and data quality.

Requirements

• Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
• A graduate of an accredited college or university.
• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
• Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) credential is preferred.
• Medical Record Technology college or vocational school education is preferred.
• A minimum of three years of hospital HIMS experience is preferred in lieu of certification.
• One year of data-entry experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain delinquent records at less than 50% of the average discharge rate.
• Monitor staff deficiencies and ensure all IRF-PAI data elements are completed.
• Complete physician and staff deficiency checklists.
• Perform a final check of medical records before designating them complete.
• Abstract discharge dates for all discharged inpatients for the PATCOM system.
• Accurately enter all PATCOM HIMS data.
• Monitor and correct errors on daily exception reports.
