About The Position

This role involves scanning medical records, ensuring quality and completeness of electronic charts, processing information release requests, assisting patients with the Health Portal, and maintaining confidentiality. The HIM Technician II is expected to perform duties with little or no supervision and contribute to the efficiency and safety of the HIM Department.

Requirements

  • Medical Records experience
  • Knowledge of office operations
  • Types approximately 30 CWPM
  • Computer experience
  • Knowledge of filing systems
  • Familiar with the use office equipment
  • Adapts to changes in procedures and/or workload
  • Consistently complies with established Behavioral Expectations

Responsibilities

  • Scans paper Inpatient (IN), Observation (INO), and Same Day Care (SDC) records into the information system and accurately assigns ID for each form according to work standards.
  • Reviews all electronic charts for quality, e.g., legibility, completeness, etc.
  • Scans all loose papers sent to the department after initial processing has been completed.
  • Processes requests for release of information according to hospital policies.
  • Maintains tickler file of orders that have been mailed for signatures to ensure safe and timely return of original medical record documents.
  • Assists patients with the Health Portal via phone or in person.
  • Maintains confidentiality according to Sullivan County Community Hospital and HIM Department policies.
  • Scans paper IN, INO, and SDC records into the information system daily according to work standards.
  • Documents incomplete charts for signature and/or dictation so letters can be mailed weekly.
  • Answers telephone courteously and relays information promptly.
  • Performs most duties with little or no supervision.
  • Follows policies and procedures that contribute to the efficiency and safety of the HIM Department.
  • Performs other duties when requested by the HIM Director.
