About The Position

As our Health Information Management Technician, you will be instrumental in maintaining the integrity, accuracy, and accessibility of patient health information, playing a critical role in supporting quality patient care, accurate billing, and regulatory compliance. Every day you will manage patient health records, including scanning, indexing, archiving, and retrieving medical documentation. You will be expected to ensure the completeness and accuracy of health records, process requests for Protected Health Information (PHI) in compliance with privacy regulations, and assist with coding and abstracting tasks as needed, all while safeguarding patient confidentiality. To be successful in this role, you must possess meticulous attention to detail, a strong understanding of health information management principles, and an unwavering commitment to data integrity and patient privacy.

  • Meets record processing standards of prepping = 2 charts per hour.
  • Meets record standards of Scanning = 600 sheets per hour, Verifying = 200 sheets per hour
  • Meets record standards of Indexing (AFI) = 100 sheets per hour.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Graduate or GED Graduate
  • Minimum 1-2 years in the HIM (Medical Records) Department in an acute care facility

Responsibilities

  • Manage patient health records, including scanning, indexing, archiving, and retrieving medical documentation.
  • Ensure the completeness and accuracy of health records.
  • Process requests for Protected Health Information (PHI) in compliance with privacy regulations.
  • Assist with coding and abstracting tasks as needed, all while safeguarding patient confidentiality.
  • Processing of patient charts within 24 hours of discharge to include but not limited to: retrieve chart from nursing units, check in to chart locator, prepare for scanning process, notify management of missing charts, etc.
  • Prepare charts for scanning by following department policies within 24 hours of discharge.
  • Scanning and verifying images from patient charts by following department policies.
  • Assigning Form ID to all images by following department policies.
  • All loose documents are processed in Electronic Record and filed with original paper record.
  • Knowledge of where all records can be found, how to retrieve and send back to offsite storage per department policy.
