About The Position

The Health Information Management (HIM) Supervisor is responsible for the medical record component of the facility(ies) to include monitoring of the records and supervision of the HIM staff. This includes the duties of release of information, scanning, analysis, deficiency tracking/reporting. Acts as designee for coding as well when HIM Director is absent at times. Function as coach and mentor to the staff for whom this position is responsible. Provide and/or oversee training for newly hired staff or transfers into the department. Provide leadership and direction to the staff for whom they are responsible in order to maintain a work environment that promotes the creative development of ideas and allows staff to meet and/or exceed expectations and establish standards of performance.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Previous HIM/medical records experience preferred.
  • RHIT or two (2) years of supervisory/management experience setting in a Health Information Department in an acute care
  • HIPAA Education and Training
  • Knowledge of federal regulations with regards to disclosure of patient information
  • Demonstrate excellent written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Ability to communicate with providers as well as staff to maintain a positive work environment
  • A thorough knowledge of medical terminology, policies, and procedures as they regard the medical record, as well as legal issues involved

Nice To Haves

  • RHIA/RHIT Credentialed
  • Minimum three (3) years of supervisory/management experience in an acute care setting or medical environment

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight and supervision of Scanning, Analysis as well as ROI team including performance management
  • Participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedures associated with the section to ensure accomplishment of section, department, and hospital goals
  • Keep Health Information Management Director informed on associates' performance and helps to identify training opportunities.
  • Provide feedback and make recommendations for commendations, performance reviews and progressive disciplinary actions.
  • Identify and evaluate areas that may need improvement and work with the Director to develop and implement solutions that will streamline processes and improve workflows
  • Manage the daily workload by making sure the work queues are maintained and being completed in a timely manner
  • Keep up to date on HIPAA and compliance rules and serve as the expert
  • Maintain Kronos and coverage for all staff
  • Maintain work schedule for all staff and are responsible for making sure all areas are covered
  • Each employee is responsible for implementing SJRMC’s Service Standards into their daily work: Safety, Courtesy, Effectiveness, and Stewardship
  • Other duties as assigned, and overtime as requested or required
