The HIM Specialist performs daily operations of the HIM department and related projects and processes, including Master Patient Index (MPI) maintenance, disclosure of patient information, chart auditing, quality assurance and many other HIM functions assigned. The HIM Specialist will have the following: High school diploma required. Two years of post-high school or 5 years of experience in a health care setting preferred. Strong computer skills to include MS Office tools (Word, Excel, and Outlook). Extensive use of computer and office equipment. Knowledge of Joint Commission requirements and federal and state guidelines applicable to health record completeness and patient privacy. Knowledge of health information systems and data management. Knowledge of health record content and sequence. Ability to maintain confidentiality in all phases of work. Ability to process work within presented deadlines and time frames. Ability to manage multiple projects and large amounts of data. Ability to work independently and as a team player.
