About The Position

Plays a vital role in accurate patient records and reimbursement by reviewing every patient encounter and assigning the appropriate ICD-9-CM and/or ICD-10-CM and CPT codes, as well as ICD-10-PCS codes for all inpatient hospital encounters.

Requirements

• High School or GED with certificate of medical terminology training and/or Anatomy and Physiology
• 1-3 years coding experience in an acute care setting
• Emotional maturity and good people skills
• Analytical and problem solving skills
• Visual concentration due to use of VDT (approximately 60-75% of the time)
• Extended periods of sitting

Nice To Haves

• AHIMA certification as CCS, or AHIMA registration as RHIT or RHIA
• 5+ years coding experience in acute care facility with specialty units

Responsibilities

• Review every patient encounter and assign the appropriate ICD-9-CM and/or ICD-10-CM and CPT codes
• Assign ICD-10-PCS codes for all inpatient hospital encounters
