About The Position

The HIM Analyst - Release of Information organizes and responds to requests for medical information. Their goal is to assist with the processing of medical records requests for the purposes of insurance billing, patient requests, provider requests, and regulatory requests, and subpoenas. It is the organizational goal to complete requests within the time standards set forth by federal and state agencies and hospital policy. They support and contribute to the service excellence mission of Enloe Medical Center. They are also held to the strictest standards of patient confidentiality. In addition: They are responsible to answer phones in a polite and respectful manner. The Analyst responds timely and efficiently to medical record requests and customer questions. They will assist practitioners in accessing medical records through in the electronic medical record (EMR). They will coordinate the purging of medical records per the hospital’s retention policy. The HIM Analyst Release of Information will have knowledge of document imaging and deficiency analysis duties and perform them when requested as follows: They analyze records for completeness and electronically assign deficiency tags to clinicians in the EMR. They organize and review patient’s medical records for scanning into the document imaging system. They retrieve discharges from the medical floors and/or coordinate the receipt of records from departments so they may be scanned and accessible in the EMR. The HIM Analyst prepares the chart for scanning, organizing records in standardized order. They ensure all records for the day’s discharges or visit are accounted for and follows-up with the respective departments if not received. They scan medical records ensuring every page is properly scanned and viewable. They strive for high quality and completeness to ensure regulatory and organizational requirements are met. This is an in-person position and not available for remote work.

Requirements

  • Two years Health Information Management /Medical Records experience in Deficiency Analysis/Chart Correction OR Three years Health Information Management/Medical Records experience OR One year experience in medical records release of information OR Currently enrolled in or completed a Health Information Management college program
  • Must be able to follow instructions, work accurately and meet established productivity standards in a fast paced environment.
  • Organizational and multi-tasking skills are essential.
  • Analytical and grammatical skills are necessary to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to work independently and pay close attention to detail.
  • Capable of using keyboard, including Microsoft Word, Outlook (Microsoft Office Suite) computer skills for a variety of support functions.
  • Must be able to fulfill the essential functions of the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Medical Terminology
  • Previous Medical Records experience in an acute care setting
  • Previous experience with EPIC
  • Previous subpoena and audit experience
  • Knowledge of EPIC preferred.
