HIL System Development Engineer

Stellantis•Auburn Hills, MI

About The Position

Stellantis EEAV is seeking a VHIL Systems and HW/Modelling Engineer for its HIL Engineering team. The engineer will develop and support Hardware-in-the-Loop systems, serving as an interface between the HIL development team and external teams for HIL requirements and impact analysis. The role works closely with ECU hardware, systems, software, controls, plant modelling, and calibration engineers to resolve simulation environment and integration issues and to troubleshoot during commissioning of HIL test properties. The position calls for interdisciplinary experience, including ADAS, electrical engineering, and electric and hybrid systems, and collaboration with global teams across North America, Europe, South America, and Asia/India. The engineer will develop HIL bench scope analyses, ECU scope and device transmittal reviews, vehicle-system documentation reviews, modelling and framework components, Control Desk panels, and HIL documentation. The role also supports HIL vehicle program management, lab vehicle fabrication and integration, HIL updates and configurations, commissioning, functional checkout, propulsion-system integration, issue resolution, and validation-team support. Additional work includes benchmarking and evaluating HIL technologies and contributing to processes, methodologies, and tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline from an accredited university.
  • At least 5 years of professional engineering experience in electrical/electronics, hardware, software, or controls.
  • Knowledge and experience with ADAS, propulsion systems, electrical engineering, and electric and hybrid systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop systems, including dSPACE, ETAS, or NI HIL systems.
  • Experience commissioning HIL benches.
  • Experience with diagnostic management tools such as CANalyzer and CANoe.
  • Knowledge of simulation tools such as CarMaker or ASM.
  • Experience with UDS, XCP, and Automotive Ethernet protocols.
  • Familiarity with trace-capture, data-acquisition, and analysis tools such as ETAS INCA.
  • Experience with HIL testing, vehicle integration, and validation.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with people at all organizational levels.
  • Experience working cross-functionally.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a fast-paced environment and with global teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Science degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering.
  • Working experience with MIL/SIL validation and verification.
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle dynamics and specific simulation software.
  • Experience working within an Agile or Scrum framework.
  • Experience in test automation.
  • Experience with Ethernet networking protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Develop HIL bench scope analyses and align the scope with stakeholders.
  • Develop ECU scope and device transmittal analyses and reviews across variants and complexity configurations.
  • Review vehicle-system documentation, including vehicle functions, hardware interfaces, network communication databases, DBC files, and arXML.
  • Develop modelling, frameworks, and Control Desk panels through multiple program-milestone iterations.
  • Prepare HIL documentation, including I/O information, signal lists, wiring layouts, and MTB/LTB designs.
  • Perform engineering work managing HIL vehicle programs as directed by the Stellantis EEVI/VTE EE HIL Integration Manager.
  • Support and coordinate lab vehicle fabrication with the EE lab and/or external suppliers.
  • Manage HIL updates for planned validation loops, including models, communication databases, hardware, complexity, and variant verification.
  • Manage HIL setups for vehicle configurations and permutations, including low- and high-line options and contents.
  • Manage lab vehicle HIL integrations, including vehicle parts, PC setup, and licenses.
  • Lead and perform lab vehicle and HIL simulation open- and closed-loop commissioning.
  • Lead test-property functional checkouts and Control Desk functional checkouts before HIL delivery.
  • Lead propulsion-systems HIL integration and commissioning.
  • Follow Stellantis safety protocols and ethical guidelines for office, building, and personnel.
  • Manage and resolve issues related to EE HIL test properties before and after commissioning.
  • Provide technical support to the HIL validation team and resolve EE HIL test-property issues.
  • Prepare weekly program status reports and track related KPIs, such as on-time delivery and issue tracking.
  • Conduct benchmarks, evaluate new HIL technologies, and work with teams on processes, methodologies, and tools.
