As a Highway Safety & Bike-Ped Coordinator with the Department of Transportation, you will support essential programs that protect travelers and improve mobility. This position guides essential safety, engineering, and coordination efforts that support safer highways and active transportation across the District. As a Highway Safety and Bicycle-Pedestrian Coordinator, you will perform the following duties: Program Coordination: Lead district and county safety efforts by organizing, tracking, and supporting transportation safety programs Risk Management: Oversee hazard identification and other processes to reduce roadway risks Safety Analysis: Evaluate crash data, review studies, and recommend improvements using established engineering tools Project Development: Prepare plans, specifications, and estimates for traffic engineering and safety projects Stakeholder Interaction: Respond to inquiries, conduct field reviews, and collaborate with municipalities, legislators, and the public Bike-Ped Oversight: Review bicycle, pedestrian, and trail crossing projects to ensure compliance and proper design. Requirements

  • Six years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty; and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists
  • Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty; and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; and an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline
  • Two years of professional civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license
