About The Position

The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) is seeking a part-time, temporary individual to support active transportation planning. This role involves spatial data collection and processing, working with team members on bike network modeling, and the bikeway comfort index. The ideal candidate will be familiar with spatial data manipulation in ArcGIS Pro, possess strong time management skills, and be able to work independently with a desire to learn and solve problems. This temporary position is not eligible for benefits and involves working up to 29 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in city or regional planning, urban studies, GIS, geography, or related field; OR An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Comfortable using ArcGIS Pro for editing, managing, and analyzing spatial data.
  • Ability to edit geographic features, including modifying existing features, reshaping geometries, and editing vertices and attributes.
  • Familiarity with OpenStreetMap (OSM) data and tools.
  • Understanding transportation concepts such as routes, links, and nodes.
  • Basic knowledge of spatial data formats (e.g., shapefiles, geodatabases).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree candidate in city and regional planning, urban studies, GIS or statistics or related field
  • Working experience and knowledge in city and regional planning, urban studies, land use modeling, transportation modeling, statistical analysis, and database management
  • Experience using census data and various local government data
  • Experience with scripting or automation in Python for GIS tasks.
  • Knowledge of transportation modeling or network analysis.
  • Familiarity with spatial databases

Responsibilities

  • Use ArcGIS Pro to review, edit, and update the REVAMP sidewalk dataset using available aerial and Google imagery to identify and complete missing or incomplete sidewalk information.
  • Create, edit, and process geographic data using ArcGIS Pro.
  • Work with OpenStreetMap (OSM) data and integrate it with other spatial datasets.
  • Handle attribute data related to routes, links, and nodes.
  • Assist in managing and updating street network data.
  • Support the team in spatial analysis and visualization tasks.
  • Collaborate with team members on project-based tasks and provide GIS-related insights.
  • Assist with active transportation data collection, quality control, and analysis for bicycle and pedestrian planning projects.
  • Support research and analysis related to bike network modeling, bikeway comfort, pedestrian bridge efficacy, and other active transportation initiatives.
