About The Position

This position serves the public by working to make Ohio roads safer. The selected candidate will be placed in the classification in which they meet minimum qualifications. The role involves performing highway maintenance activities and potentially snow and ice operations. The State of Ohio is a drug-free workplace and this position may be subject to additional restrictions. All candidates must be authorized to work in the United States, and sponsorship for an employment visa is not available.

Requirements

  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary (for Highway Maintenance Worker 1)
  • Must obtain Class B Commercial Drivers License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction (for Highway Maintenance Worker 1)
  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & decimals, percentages & fractions; ability to read, write & speak common English vocabulary; 3 mos. trg. or 3 mos. exp. in operation of basic equipment (for Highway Technician 1)
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction (for Highway Technician 1)
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

Nice To Haves

  • Already a licensed CDL holder

Responsibilities

  • Serve the public and work to make the roads in Ohio safer
  • Attend training to obtain CDL licensure; if not already a licensed CDL holder
  • Perform highway maintenance activities; including flagging, pothole patching, repairing guardrails, litter pickup, mowing
  • Perform snow & ice operations
