About The Position

This position involves serving the public by working to make the roads in Ohio safer. The selected candidate will be placed in the classification (Highway Maintenance Worker 1 or Highway Technician 1) for which they meet the minimum qualifications. The role includes performing highway maintenance activities such as flagging, pothole patching, repairing guardrails, litter pickup, and mowing, as well as snow and ice operations. The position is overtime eligible based on FLSA Standards and requires new hires to serve a one (1) year probationary period. The final candidate must undergo a criminal background check and a urinalysis to test for illegal drug use. This position is also subject to federal testing regulations and requires registration in the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse. Medical marijuana is prohibited as a valid explanation for a positive drug test.

Requirements

  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction.
  • Ability to read, write & speak common English vocabulary.
  • Must obtain Class B Commercial Drivers License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction.
  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & decimals, percentages & fractions.
  • 3 mos. trg. or 3 mos. exp. in operation of basic equipment.
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction.
  • Applicant must have valid Commercial Driver’s License at the appropriate level pursuant to approved position description on file to operate motorized equipment of size & type regulated by section 4506 of Ohio Revised Code.
  • Must register as a driver in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse.

Responsibilities

  • Perform highway maintenance activities; including flagging, pothole patching, repairing guardrails, litter pickup, mowing.
