Requirements

  • One year of experience as a Highway Foreman 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Two years of experience in the performance of lead work or skilled tradesman duties on a highway maintenance or construction project; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Possession of a valid Class C Pennsylvania Driver's License.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions.
  • Submission of criminal history reports upon conditional offer of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Direct crews using equipment and tools to complete patching, drainage work, shoulder repair, sweeping, litter pickup, and other maintenance tasks
  • Investigate roadway concerns, update road condition records, and recommend work priorities and resource needs
  • Teach proper equipment use, maintenance procedures, and correct work methods to ensure quality results
  • Select safe traffic control setups, monitor worksite conditions, encourage safety awareness, and respond to accidents or injuries
  • Evaluate performance, approve leave, address problems, provide coaching, and support training needs for crew members
  • Carry out environmental practices required in maintenance manuals and support the Strategic Environmental Management Program
