About The Position

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is seeking to fill three temporary Highway Maintenance Worker 2 positions in Prosser, WA. Requirements

Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with N endorsement and without airbrake restriction.
Washington State Flagging Card (or ability to obtain within two (2) months of appointment).
First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain within six (6) months of appointment).
Valid CDL Medical card.
Basic understanding of highway maintenance tasks such as pavement repair, drainage systems, erosion control, vegetation management, sign and guardrail installation, and debris removal.
Basic understanding and knowledge of hand tools, power equipment, and other tools and equipment required to perform job tasks.
Strong understanding of workplace safety procedures and commitment to following safety policies, including confined space entry, fall protection, and hazardous material handling.
Ability to participate in the creation and implementation of Pre-Activity Safety Plans (PASP) and attend regular safety training.
Ability to use electronic systems for timekeeping, maintenance tracking, inventory management, and cost estimating.
Proficient in standard computer applications including Microsoft Office and email communication.
Demonstrated experience performing routine and emergency maintenance on highways, roadways, and related infrastructure including pavement repair, drainage systems, erosion control, vegetation management, sign and guardrail installation, and debris removal.
Ability to assess maintenance needs and perform repairs to highway structures, roadside features, and landscapes.
Skilled in operating and maintaining heavy equipment (e.g. front-end loaders, tractor mowers, sweepers, flushers, truck-mounted attenuators, backhoe, vactor, 32,000-60,000 GVW Dump truck with snowplow and chemical deicer attachments).
Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently in the field.
Capable of leading a crew in the absence of a Highway Maintenance Worker 3, demonstrating sound decision-making and leadership skills.

Ability to work at ground level, in confined spaces, and at elevated heights above 25 feet over land or water.
Ability to traverse rough, steep, and uneven terrain.

Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, to respond to unscheduled work, call-outs, or emergencies.
Ability to respond to emergency situations in all weather conditions, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, individually or as part of a team.

Responsibilities

Perform roadway maintenance and repair, including asphalt and concrete pavement repairs using concrete, asphalt, and synthetic materials.
Maintain highway infrastructure by repairing drainage systems, catch basins, sedimentation facilities, ditches, guardrail, fencing, impact attenuators, signs, and addressing erosion and slide damage.
Conduct vegetation management, including danger tree removal, pesticide application, landscaping, planting, and site restoration to maintain safe highway corridors.
Support roadway operations by hauling materials, maintaining stockpile sites, removing litter, debris, and dead animals from state rights-of-way, and assisting with third-party damage estimates as needed.
Perform snow and ice control operations, including loading and operating equipment to distribute sand, gravel, and other materials to maintain safe travel conditions.
Design, establish, and implement traffic control for maintenance activities, lane and road closures, and bridge closures in accordance with WSDOT policies and the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), including flagging and attenuator/buffer truck operations.
Respond to accidents, spills, and other emergency incidents as a first responder, coordinating traffic control and response efforts with external agencies while communicating status and resource needs to supervisors.
Track, document, and report work activities, maintain inventory accountability, and perform other maintenance and customer service duties as assigned to support regional operations.
