About The Position

This series exists to provide and preserve a safe and efficient transportation system for the traveling public, while also being courteous, considerate, and prompt in dealing with and serving the public. Positions will be assigned based on experience and qualifications. This role is eligible for a $4,000 hiring incentive. The series includes multiple career levels: Highway Operations Worker (entry-level), Highway Operations Tech 1 (apprentice), Highway Operations Tech 2 (entry journey), and Highway Operations Tech 3 (full journey). Each level involves increasing responsibility and complexity in highway operational duties, with higher levels also encompassing leadership and supervisory tasks.

Requirements

  • For Highway Operations Worker: Obtain Arizona CDL (Class “A”) permit within 90 days from hire and an Arizona Class “A” Commercial Driver’s license (CDL) within 6 months of hire.
  • For Highway Operations Tech 1-3: An Arizona Class “A” Commercial Driver’s license (CDL) for a manual or automatic transmission and an (N) tanker endorsement is required prior to the start date. Additional endorsements may be required based on the assigned area.
  • Registration with the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse (Clearinghouse) and authorization for ADOT to conduct limited queries on CDL for the duration of employment.
  • Ability to respond to emergency call outs (24 hours a day, seven days a week) and respond to the Maintenance yard within 30 minutes.
  • Ability to lift/carry – push/pull 50 lbs.
  • May require licensing through the State Board of Pesticide Control to dispense herbicides/pesticides.
  • Successful completion of the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).
  • For Highway Operations Worker: 6 months of Roadway/Highway job related experience.
  • For Highway Operations Tech 1: 1 year of job related Roadway/Highway experience.
  • For Highway Operations Tech 2: 2 years of job related Roadway/Highway experience.
  • For Highway Operations Tech 3: 3 years of job related Roadway/Highway experience.

Nice To Haves

  • For Highway Operations Worker: Preference of six months experience in related fields.
