About The Position

This series exists to provide and preserve a safe and efficient transportation system for the traveling public, as well as being courteous, considerate, and prompt in dealing with and serving the public. Positions will be assigned based on experience and qualifications. This role is eligible for a $4,000 hiring incentive. The series includes Highway Operations Worker (entry level), Highway Operations Tech 1 (apprentice), Highway Operations Tech 2 (entry journey), and Highway Operations Tech 3 (full journey). Duties across these levels involve operating motorized vehicles and equipment, pavement care and preservation, landscape care and preservation, roadside shoulder restoration and repairs, signing and striping, delivery of equipment and materials, environmental compliance, and vehicle and equipment care. The Tech 2 and Tech 3 levels also include responsibilities for scheduling, assigning, overseeing, inspecting, training, and guiding subordinate staff.

Requirements

  • For Highway Operations Worker: Obtain Arizona CDL (Class “A”) permit within 90 days from the date of hire and an Arizona Class “A” Commercial Driver’s license (CDL) within 6 months of hire
  • For Highway Operations Tech 1-3: An Arizona Class “A” Commercial Driver’s license (CDL) for a manual or automatic transmission and an (N) tanker endorsement is required prior to the start date
  • Based on the assigned area, additional endorsements may be required
  • Registration with the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse (Clearinghouse) and authorization for ADOT to conduct limited queries on CDL for the duration of employment
  • Ability to respond to the Maintenance yard within 30 minutes for emergency call outs
  • Ability to lift/carry – push/pull 50 lbs
  • May require licensing through the State Board of Pesticide Control to dispense herbicides/pesticides
  • Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify)
  • For Highway Operations Tech 1: 1 year of job related Roadway/Highway experience
  • For Highway Operations Tech 2: 2 years of job related Roadway/Highway experience
  • For Highway Operations Tech 3: 3 years of job related Roadway/Highway experience

Nice To Haves

  • For Highway Operations Worker: Six months experience in related fields

Responsibilities

  • Operate motorized vehicles and equipment
