About The Position

The High Voltage Apparatus Specialist performs inspection, testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, reconditioning, and commissioning activities on low, medium, and high-voltage electrical apparatus. This position is primarily shop-based but requires occasional travel to customer sites and substations. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with circuit breakers, switchgear, transformers, regulators, and reclosers, along with strong electrical testing and diagnostic skills.

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of experience in electrical testing, maintenance, construction, commissioning, or related power industry work.
• Experience working with low, medium, and high-voltage apparatus.
• Strong troubleshooting skills in mechanical and electrical systems.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and computer-based reporting.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
• Ability to pass background, motor vehicle, drug, and alcohol screenings.

Nice To Haves

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic Technology.
• Military electrical experience.
• Experience with SF6 apparatus.
• PowerDB experience.
• CDL or willingness to obtain required driving endorsement.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, rebuild, retrofit, and test: 480V-72kV air, vacuum, and SF6 circuit breakers
• Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, rebuild, retrofit, and test: 138kV-550kV SF6 circuit breakers and circuit switchers
• Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, rebuild, retrofit, and test: Reclosers, sectionalizers, regulators, and transformers
• Operate electrical testing equipment, including: Primary/secondary injection test sets, Insulation analyzers, Contact resistance meters, Breaker time/travel analyzers, Power factor test sets, CT analyzers
• Complete PEARL documentation and PowerDB test reports accurately and on time.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
• Follow OSHA, NFPA 70E, PEARL, NETA, and company safety requirements.
• Support project planning, scheduling, execution, and cost control activities.
• Maintain tools, testing equipment, and company vehicles.
