Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent degree.
  • 2+ years minimum experience in thermal analysis 1D and 3D thermal / CFD simulation techniques.
  • 2 years minimum working experience in thermal analysis supporting product development.
  • Expert knowledge of heat transfer theory and CAE thermal analysis simulation methods.
  • Working knowledge of Computed Aided Engineering (CAE) software tools for heat transfer analysis, such as StarCCM+ and CAE model building software tools such as Ansa and Hypermesh.
  • Working experience in CAD geometry cleanup for CAE, simulation model building and meshing, CAE model setup, model running and post-processing.

Nice To Haves

  • M.S degree preferred.
  • Physical thermal testing experience preferred, including thermal test data processing.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages preferred.
  • Working knowledge or experience of HV battery pack design and manufacturing process preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform 1D and 3D thermal/CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) analysis simulations on system, subsystem and component level high voltage battery packs using commercial CAE/CFD software to meet battery unit and vehicle development timing.
  • Post process and report thermal simulation results to product development teams to guide battery design in support of product development milestones.
  • Analyze and process vehicle and lab thermal test data from battery physical thermal testing and apply it to correlate CAE models.
  • Determine loading and boundary conditions for thermal CAE/CFD models based on vehicle and lab physical testing conditions.
  • Work with testing and battery D&R engineers to specify thermal testing and instrumentation of HV battery packs for CAE correlation and physical test reduction.
  • Lead CAE-testing interactions and apply CAE thermal tools to support testing teams, test reduction efforts and virtual test signoff.
