About The Position

Springfield Public Schools is seeking a High School Vocational Teacher for Graphic Communications. This role involves teaching students across various Vocational Technical Education Framework Strands, including Safety and Health, Technical Standards, Embedded Academics, Employability, Management and Entrepreneurship, and Technology. The primary goal is to help students develop into mature, capable, responsible, and productive citizens by imparting subject matter and skills. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Five years of recent (within the last seven), full-time employment experience directly related to trade shop
  • State trade/union license
  • 9-14 Graphic Communications license or license eligible

Nice To Haves

  • An associate degree may substitute for one of five years of required employment experience, provided that the degree includes subject matter related to one or more strands of the Vocational Technical Education Framework in graphic communications, and/or in education.
  • A bachelor’s degree may substitute for two of five years of required employment experience, provided that the degree includes subject matter related to one or more strands of the Vocational Technical Education Framework in graphic communications, and/or in education.

Responsibilities

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of established district curriculum goals, establishing and communicating clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
  • Prepares for assigned classes and shows written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location and the needs of the students.
  • Strives to implement the district’s philosophy of education, instructional goals, objectives, and performance expectations through instruction and action.
  • Assesses student accomplishments regularly, provides progress reports, and communicates with parents as necessary.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Diagnoses student learning challenges regularly, seeking assistance from district specialists as needed.
  • Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Follows the SPS code of conduct for the classroom and develops and enforces classroom behavior rules fairly.
  • Plans and supervises assignments for paraprofessionals and makes written evaluations as required.
  • Maintains an ongoing program of professional growth that satisfies district requirements and personal expectations.
  • Takes an active part in the teacher evaluation process, contributing to mutual agreement on results.
  • Attends building and district meetings to promote communication and mutual decision-making among staff during the extended day.
  • Attends established school-sponsored activities agreed upon by the building administrator and faculty.
  • Contributes to district and building decisions regarding budget, facilities, curriculum, and personal well-being.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
