About The Position

Teach the following Vocational Technical Education Framework Strands: Strand One: Safety and Health Knowledge, Strand Two: Technical Standards Knowledge and Skills, Strand Three: Embedded Academics, Strand Four: Employability, Strand Five: Management and Entrepreneurship, Strand Six: Technology. The job goal is to help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, responsible, and productive citizens. This role involves meeting and instructing assigned classes, planning a program of study that meets individual student needs, interests, and abilities, and creating a classroom environment conducive to learning. The teacher will guide the learning process towards established district curriculum goals, establish clear objectives for lessons, and prepare for classes. They will employ various instructional techniques and media, strive to implement the district's philosophy of education, and assess student accomplishments regularly, providing progress reports and communicating with parents as needed. The teacher will maintain accurate records, diagnose learning challenges, and seek assistance from specialists when required. They will take precautions to protect students and school property, follow a code of conduct, and enforce classroom rules fairly. The role also includes planning and supervising assignments for paraprofessionals and participating in the teacher evaluation process. Professional growth is expected, along with active participation in building and district meetings, traditional school events, and contributing to district decisions regarding budget, facilities, curriculum, and staff well-being.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Five years of recent (within the last seven), full-time employment experience directly related to trade shop
  • State trade/union license
  • Passing score of at least 70% on the written and performance tests for licensure
  • Passing score on the Vocational Technical Literacy (VTLST) and the Communication and Literacy Skills Test
  • Criminal justice (9-14) license requirements are expected to be completed as soon as possible from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Responsibilities

  • Help students learn subject matter and skills for their development as mature, able, responsible, and productive citizens.
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in designated locations and times.
  • Plan a program of study that meets individual student needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to student maturity and interests.
  • Guide the learning process toward established district curriculum goals.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives to students for all lessons, units, and projects.
  • Prepare for assigned classes and show written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with physical limitations and student needs.
  • Implement the district’s philosophy of education, instructional goals, objectives, and performance expectations.
  • Assess student accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports.
  • Communicate with parents as deemed necessary.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Diagnose student learning challenges and seek assistance from district specialists as required.
  • Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Follow the SPS code of conduct for the classroom and enforce rules of classroom behavior fairly.
  • Plan and supervise assignments for paraprofessionals and make written evaluations as required.
  • Maintain an ongoing program of professional growth that satisfies district requirements and personal expectations.
  • Take an active part in the teacher evaluation process.
  • Attend building and district meetings to promote communication and mutual decision making.
  • Attend established traditional school sponsored activities.
  • Contribute to decisions made by the district and building regarding budget, facilities, curriculum, and personal well-being.
