About The Position

Teach the following Vocational Technical Education Framework Strands: Strand One: Safety and Health Knowledge, Strand Two: Technical Standards Knowledge and Skills, Strand Three: Embedded Academics, Strand Four: Employability, Strand Five: Management and Entrepreneurship, Strand Six: Technology. The primary goal is to help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, responsible, and productive citizens. This includes meeting and instructing assigned classes, planning a program of study that meets individual student needs, interests, and abilities, and creating a classroom environment conducive to learning. The teacher will guide the learning process towards established district curriculum goals, establish clear objectives for lessons, and prepare for classes. A variety of instructional techniques and media will be employed, consistent with the physical limitations of the location and the needs of the students. The teacher will strive to implement the district’s philosophy of education, instructional goals, and objectives. Regular assessment of student accomplishments, progress reports, and communication with parents are expected. Accurate record-keeping, diagnosing learning challenges, and seeking assistance from specialists are also key responsibilities. The teacher will take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities, and will follow the SPS code of conduct for the classroom, enforcing rules fairly. Planning and supervising assignments for paraprofessionals, and maintaining an ongoing program of professional growth are also required. Active participation in the teacher evaluation process and attendance at building and district meetings are expected. The teacher will contribute to district and building decisions regarding budget, facilities, curriculum, and personal well-being, while striving to maintain and improve professional competence.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Five years of recent (within the last seven), full-time employment experience directly related to trade shop and state trade/union license.
  • Passing score of at least 70% on the written and performance tests for licensure
  • Passing score on the Vocational Technical Literacy (VTLST) and the Communication and Literacy Skills Test
  • Criminal justice (9-14) license requirements are expected to be completed as soon as possible from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Vocational Technical Education Framework Strands: Safety and Health Knowledge, Technical Standards Knowledge and Skills, Embedded Academics, Employability, Management and Entrepreneurship, and Technology.
  • Help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, responsible, and productive citizens.
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interest, and abilities of the students.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of established district curriculum goals.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives to the students for all lessons, units and projects.
  • Prepare for classes assigned, and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor as required by the teachers’ contract.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs of capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Strive by instruction and action to implement the district’s philosophy of education, instructional goals and objectives and performance expectations.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis; provide progress reports as required, and communicate with parents as deemed necessary.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Diagnose the learning challenges of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Follow the SPS a code of conduct for the classroom which is consistent with established administrative policies and develop rules of classroom behavior which are enforced in a fair and just manner.
  • Plan and supervise assignments for paraprofessionals, and make written evaluations as required.
  • Maintain an ongoing program of professional growth that satisfies district requirements but also satisfies personal expectations as a professional.
  • Take an active part in the contractually -approved teacher evaluation process, contributing to a mutual agreement concerning the results of that evaluation.
  • Attend building and district meetings to promote communication and mutual decision making among the staff; said meetings to be held during the extended day.
  • Attend established traditional school sponsored activities (e.g., Back to School Night, Open House, programs, activities) agreed upon by the building administrator and the faculty consistent with the teachers’ contract.
  • Contribute to the decisions made by the district and building regarding budget, facilities, curriculum, and personal well-being.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
